It nearly snowed!

Thankfully, where I live we don't get much snow.  I have to confess to be a total wimp about driving and being out and about in it, so whilst I think it looks pretty for a day, after that, I am totally over any snow!

Although there seems to be lots of snow around, and in fact there was snow which disrupted the trains and buses in Brighton yesterday, which is only 10 or so miles away, there hasn't been any real snowfall here for the last couple of years.  It is cold here at the moment (well, for South East England anyway), but no snow.

Yesterday morning there was a heavy frost, and as I fed the birds there were about 3 flakes of snow!  That was it - perfect!!  Enough to make it look pretty, but all gone by lunchtime.  I didn't have to rush anywhere in the morning, so was able to take a few minutes walking back from school and around my garden and enjoy my surroundings.  I like to "breathe" it in sometimes, and I couldn't believe how loud the birds are singing.  It sounded more like early Spring that Winter.  Maybe I forget year to year, but it was beautiful.  Just me standing in the fields, and the birds singing.  You can't get a much better start to the day than that.  Although I did enjoy my cup of tea when I got back to my warm house!

I hope everyone is enjoying their week.

Sunrise on the school run.

Some hedges have been cut back and I can now see my house.

A solitary sheep - I am sure there were about 20 the day before! I couldn't work out where the others were hiding, or if this one had been left behind?

The school Chapel

Woltsonbury Hill - the pupils walk from school to the top of the hill on Ascension Day.

SNOW!!

And frost

The birds were hungry

This little fellow is getting too brave and even followed me in to the conservatory to get his food!

    1. I think the birds were so hungry yesterday morning that they were prepared to come down when I was standing there. Quite a rare opportunity and I was glad I could take advantage of it. x

  6. Hi Sarah, wow your pictures are stunning. Brilliant bird shots...as you say it's probably hunger making them so brave....sad but a great opportunity for us.
Are you watching "Winterwatch"? ...your photos would go well in their Flickr group....https://www.flickr.com/groups/bbcwinterwatch/

  7. What beautiful photos, you've captured the birds so well. The landscape pictures are stunning, as you say, just enough snow and ice to make everything look beautiful, but not too much to disrupt getting around. I hope you're having a good day. CJ xx

  8. Hi Sarah,

We had a small flurry of snow overnight but it won't stay around for long. I love the photographs of the birds in your garden especially the Robin in flight. May be that could be your Countryfile entry for their photographic competition this year.

  11. Oh wow, excellent snowflake photo! And the shots of the robin are brilliant, so clear. ]

After a terrifying drive from Sheffield to Leeds in snow, when I nearly got stuck on a very busy hill, and was late to collect Bella from school, we bought a set of winter tyres and now have them fitted each autumn. I haven't actually had the opportunity to test them in snow yet - I'd quite like to!

  12. Excellent robin photos:) I am not brave in the snow and have to drive a fair way to work so it really worries me - however, as long as I warm (and not driving!) - I love how beautiful snow makes winter. :)
