Colour in the Garden - Feb 2013

Hi

No card, nor crochet tonight.  My dad and his wife will be round very shortly for supper and a glass of wine.

But I took some photos of my garden at lunchtime.  I am trying to take some photos each month, so that I can see the different colour that appears over the year.

Two little clumps of miniature irises

The hellebores are quite colourful

The first of the daffodils are flowering - which always makes me smile.

Spring can't be too far away!

Loving the bright colours of the euphorbia and primrose
(but the sparrows, I think, have taken the heads off all the yellow primroses!)

The rose has lots of new shoots, right by my front door - please ignore the drainpipe.  It's not so pretty!

A lone tulip - maybe a little confused?
And the jolly snowdrops are still flowering.

I'm hoping that we will see more sunshine and feel a little more warmth over the next few weeks.  I think we deserve it!

Hope you've enjoyed walking through my garden this evening.

Pink!

Just a quick post tonight as I want to make a card and crochet.  So many ideas and so little time - a common problem for crafters!

I had a lovely morning - I went shopping with my Mum and helped her buy a new phone.  A new iPhone 5.  I'm not jealous at all!

I made this card last night for a friends birthday tomorrow.  We are hoping to catch up whilst our son's play hockey tomorrow afternoon.

I would like to enter it in to the following challenges:

Celebrate the Occasion Challenge 101 - Girls Birthday - must use pink  I certainly used pink!  :)

Crafty Sentiments 1 stamp, 2 papers, 3 embellishments

Bearly Mine Anything Goes Challenge

Ripple Along

Better late than never!

Here are my photos for the ripple along with Mel at One Crafty Mumma  My son wanted this blanket, so I hope it will fit a single bed.  I chose the colours to match the rug in his room.

I chose colours that matched the rug.

I am using Rico Cotton Essentials - which is a lovely heavy DK cotton with a slight sheen to the yarn.

And I've started!  I am using Lucy at Attic 24 interlocking ripple pattern, although not so many colours as she uses!
Only another 5 or so feet in length to go!

I'll sign off now, and might get another ripple in before bed!

Half Term

I can't believe that Half Term is almost over.  It has literally whizzed by!

We haven't done too much (as I wasn't sure how much homework Matt would get, as he is now heading towards GCSE's).  He didn't have too much, and managed to get it all done on one day.  So we've not had to rush around in the mornings and can potter around.  We have been out every day, despite it getting colder as the week has gone on!  Met up with friends, eaten too much cake.  It's been fun!

Yesterday we met up with friends and went for a walk along the seafront at Ferring.  A blustery, lovely walk.  And then we had lunch in the cafe.  A fresh chicken and bacon panini, and shared chips.  It tasted fantastic, but maybe we had worked up an appetite!

It was lovely to see horses cantering along the beach too.  I'd love to do that!  It must have felt wonderful riding along the sand with the wind in your face.  Truly invigorating.

I finally finished by ripple!!!!!  Well the ripple was finished a while ago, but I struggled with the edging.
Yet again Lucy at Attic 24 came to the rescue, not that she knew it!
I struggled with colour choice and stitch choice, but I got there in the end.  I'm really rather pleased.  In fact, so pleased, it is currently living on the chair by the front door so my visitors can admire it when they come in!  I think I might make a cushion to match too.  Although the blanket is destined to keep me warm as I watch Matt play cricket.

From here in the summer

To the finished item! :)

It measures about 3ft by 5ft.  I definitely got side-tracked along the way!

My son has asked my to make a ripple for him - but would like it slightly bigger.
I am going to play along with here, with One Crafty Mumma.  Hopefully it means I will complete the project a bit more quickly, but not too quick!!!

I'll try and take some photos of the colours and yarns we've chosen.
Isn't it nice that a 6ft tall, rugby mad teenager, wants his mum to crochet him a blanket?

Have a good weekend.  I'm learning to "Colour without Lines" tomorrow.  I'm looking forward to the class, but slightly apprehensive that it could all go horribly wrong!  I quite like thick black lines when I'm colouring images for my cards!  I might share the results tomorrow.

Busy, Busy Busy

Another busy day here.

It started with meeting up with a friend and her son.  The coffee shop we'd chosen to meet at was closed, but luckily the village hall had a cakes and cuppa morning.  What a find! We may have lowered the average age by 30 years, but the tea was good and the cakes fantastic.

Then off to the chiropodist for an MOT on Matt's feet.  A quick haircut for him and then home for lunch.

I then spent the rest of the day in the office, and a large part of the evening.  That wasn't part of the plan.  Oh well, indoors now, but I think I will be off to bed fairly shortly.

But just time to add a couple of photos to share.

A wedding card and handmade box for the heart door hanger.  A complete handmade gift package for the Make it Monday - Papercraft Challenge.

I made this card last night and would like to enter it for the current challenge on Sketch Saturday - 246

Thanks for looking.

Cards for Men and another sunset

It is half term, and my sister popped by for lunch which was great.

I am trying to combine keeping on top of my work in the office, and spending time with Matt.  He was on a mission to do as much homework as possible today, so that he can relax for the rest of the holiday.

I think I spent too much time in the office today, but hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

The day ended with another lovely sunset.

So very lucky so see such a gorgeous sky two evenings in a row.

I've made a card for my father in law, and hope it fits in for the Cards for Men challenge of Wintertime.
His birthday is this week - so in Winter, and I think the brown leaves are apt for this time of year.

I used kraft card, and bazzil basics, a woodware leaf punch and a cuttlebug embossing folder.
A very easy card to make for a man!

Thanks for looking.

A busy weekend

Wow - what a busy few days I've had.

My husband bought me these lovely flowers on Valentines Day.  We were going to go out for lunch too, but I got a bit pre-occupied in the office.  We had agreed to look after a friends son in the evening (so they could go out) and ran out of time to do anything ourselves.  Whoops!

Such gorgeous colours.  Bright and zingy!

I went out with friends for a curry on Friday night.
And then we went to another friends wedding yesterday.  it was lovely to share such a special day with them.  We met some wonderful people during the day, and feel very lucky to have shared this occasion.
And then today was so beautiful and sunny and WARM here.

Mark brought me a cup of tea in bed - I have to say I am not used to going out 2 days in a row!  I must be getting old!!!
Matt played rugby (a bit different to the freezing rain last week)
Although there was still quite a lot of mud.

Then I walked home from the match - slowly enjoying the bird song and blue sky.

The sheep looked contented in the sun.

The horses field is still very muddy.

 And back home ......
I don't think it will be long before Spring really arrives.

I love this lichen - it almost shines in the sun.
 A cheery little iris.

Crocus are starting to appear.

And the day ended with a lovely sunset.
And a roast.

And an early night!!!!!!

zzzzzzzzz

More cards and a wedding present

Evening

It's turned really cold here again, and there was definitely some white stuff coming from the sky a little earlier.  :(

I have made this card for my nephew who becomes a teenager next week.  Where did the time go?!

I followed the Sketchy Colors sketch and would like to enter it into their Challenge 150.

I also made an envelope to co-ordinate to put his voucher in.  I know as the children get older they prefer vouchers or cash, but I still like them to have something pretty to open on their birthday!  I wonder if they mind, or if it's more for me?

We are off to a friends wedding on Saturday.  I can't wait.  I can't remember the last time we went to a wedding.  I wish them every happiness for the future together.

I made this card.
I saw something similar on a hero arts blog.

Our friends have asked us just to take photos rather than give them presents, but I couldn't rest making them a little gift - one of Lucy at Attic24 door hangers.  Perfect for the occasion, I think.
And I made a box to wrap everything.
Off to do some crochet now - the ripple edging is taking me a while, but I am getting there.
Photos to follow - but I'm not quite sure when!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
