Sunshine

What a difference the sun makes.

Spring peeked out, and showed it's not far away, despite all the rain and relentless grey skies and winds.  I can't tell you how good it felt to spend some time in the garden today.  I couldn't really do much, it is far too wet, but I felt energised, even after a short time pottering around outside.  It was even warm enough (tucked out of the wind and next to the house) to have a cup of tea and slice of cake outside.

I know that it won't last, but it was just what I needed.

I seem to have done so much more today than when it rains from dawn til dusk (it might also have been that Matt's rugby match was cancelled, and Mark took him to training, leaving me to have a cup of tea with my mum).

I started the day by making a cake - banana and walnut loaf.  Great with a cup of tea.

Then out to the garden, I was surprised to see how much is in flower - amazing considering all the wind and rain.

It won't be long before these daffodils will be in flower.

Even a tulip in flower in a sheltered spot.

The part of the garden with the snowdrops has been submerged just recently - so it's good to see them still trying to flower.

Then time to sit back and watch the birds - they are so noisy at the moment.  It's such a pleasure to just sit and listen to them.

The robin wouldn't sit still for his photo!

Sorry there are so many photos - but I couldn't choose which ones to use.  It made such a change to have some photos taken in good light.

Hope you've had a good weekend.

  1. I can't believe you have a tulip out already!!!!! So early! You have so much lovely colour in your garden already, it was a glorious day of sunshine that obviously bought out both flowers and birds in your garden.
Isnt that first cup of tea in the garden special? In a sheltered sunny spot, it is so rejuvenating. I have yet to have that pleasure, but I hope you enjoyed yours today, with that yummy looking banana loaf!

  2. I'm so glad you were able to get outdoors. You have so many flowers in bloom already! It's still early to have any of them blooming here, but they will in the next month or so. Your bread looks delicious, how nice to have some with your tea. It sounds like you've had a really nice day. I hope you have a great week, Sara. :)

  5. Well hello there Sara! I think I must have been doing exactly the same as you -that glorious sunshine on Sunday had me taking my first real steps into the garden this year. At first things looked doubtful but once I started to look I noticed so many things were blooming - what a wonderful feeling. I'm looking forward to following your further adventures - especially with the crochet! Jane x

  6. Having seen the recommendation to your blog from Amy after you had won her little give away I thought I would pop over and say hi. Photo's of your garden are lovely. It's been too windy over our side of the country to be outdoors much. Still Spring must surely be just around the corner now.
